Re-purposing Video Content for Social Media

You have a great deal of awesome video content that you have been creating, but now that you and your marketing budgets are exhausted, you’re looking to take that content and re-purpose it. You need to keep the content flowing to keep the followers following!

New Audience, Who Dis?

Reusing or re-posting your content allows you to attract new people to your social channels. We all know that hashtags change by the day so #dryjanuary might have been a great hashtag to attract people to your video on how to create a Shirley Temple in early 2018 but come the holidays that won’t be a hashtag people are looking for. But if you repost that video and add hashtags like #holidayspirits, #partydrinks, #familyfriendly you will attract a whole new group of people to your video.

Better SEO ranking

We all know the importance of your search engine optimization (SEO) ranking. Search engines like Google love new content and by only creating new content, you are missing a huge opportunity. By repurposing or re-posting your video content from earlier in the year, you aren’t just finding it a new audience, you are helping your own ranking. Regularly updated content is viewed as one of the best indicators of a site’s relevancy, so be sure to keep it fresh!

Re-purpose vs. Re-post

Reposting your video content definitely has its pros, but let’s not forget about just simply re-purposing the content as a whole.

If you have video content that may have been longer (anything over 60 seconds) you can easily cut it down for social media. For example, creating a teaser video that leads you to the longer content or using just 15 or 30 seconds to get your message across.

Or maybe there were parts of an interview or a demonstration that didn’t make the original cut. Now is the time to revisit those bites and use them.

Lastly, don’t forget about outtakes, bloopers or behind-the-scenes footage. Did your talent make a funny face? Did you drop the product on the floor? Or maybe you just hear the director giving instructions. These organic moments can also make you feel more approachable to your followers and as a brand.

Remember that “reduce, re-use and recycle” are also applicable to your video content!
